cut+paste is a volunteer-run collage community, not a company. There is no parent organization and nothing here is sold, shared, or handed to anyone else. This page describes the only place we hold personal information: the newsletter list.
what we collect
One thing, in one place — the signup form on our home page. Nothing else on this site collects anything.
- Your email address: required. It's the only way we can send you a newsletter.
- Your first name: optional, and only so an email can open with your name rather than "hello".
- Selectable chapters: optional. So a Denver event doesn't land in a Portland inbox.
- The topics you pick: optional. Events, retail updates, general club news.
- A copy of the consent text you agreed to, its version number, and the date you signed up: this is the record of what you actually said "yes" to, kept word-for-word so it still means something if we later reword the form.
what we don't collect
- No cookies. This site sets none, of any kind, ever.
- No analytics, no tracking. There's no Google Analytics, no sneaky little pixel, no heatmap, no session recorder, and no advertising tag.
- No third-party requests except Turnstile. The fonts, images, scripts and styles are all served from this domain. The one exception is the signup form, which loads Cloudflare Turnstile to check for bots (see above). Outside that form, loading a page here does not tell anyone else you were here.
- No stored IP addresses. The signup form limits how many times the same connection can submit in a minute, to stop bulk spam. That check happens in memory and is discarded within the minute. Your IP is never written to the database and never written to a log.
- Nothing about you from anywhere else. We do not buy lists, enrich records, or look you up.
bot protection
When you submit the signup form, the request passes through Cloudflare Turnstile — a challenge that tells us whether the submission came from a person or a bot. Turnstile runs entirely on Cloudflare's infrastructure, returns a pass/fail result, and that's all we use it for. We don't store, share, or sell any data from it.
where it lives
The list is stored in a database on our own Cloudflare account. There's no newsletter service, no CRM, and no marketing platform in the path — which also means there's no third party building a profile of you from it.
Cloudflare hosts this site and, like any web host, handles the network traffic needed to deliver a page to your browser. They act on our instructions and do not use your information for their own purposes.
privacy is a fundamental right
We'll never sell your address, rent it, trade it, or hand it to another organization. If that ever changes, it will not happen quietly: we would ask you first, and the answer would be opt-in.
how long we keep it
- Your record stays on the list until you unsubscribe.
- When you unsubscribe, we mark the record as unsubscribed rather than deleting it. That is what stops a future import from accidentally adding you back. It is a suppression list, and nothing is ever sent to it.
- If you would rather be erased outright, say so and the record is deleted, not marked. See below.
your choices
Email us and we'll do any of the following. No account, no form, no verification hoops — just say which one you want from the address you signed up with.
- Send me a copy of what you hold. We will reply with the whole record.
- Fix something. Wrong name, wrong chapters, wrong address.
- Take me off the list.
- Delete me completely. The record is removed, not suppressed.
These are rights people have under the GDPR and under California law. We apply them to everyone who asks, wherever you live, because sorting people by jurisdiction would mean collecting more about you, not less.
children
Our events are open to all ages, but the newsletter is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect addresses from anyone under 13. If a child has signed up, tell us and we'll delete the record.
changes to this page
If this page changes in a way that affects what we do with your information, we will change the date at the top and, if the change is significant, say so in the newsletter. The consent text stored against your signup is kept as it was on the day you signed up — a later edit to this page does not rewrite what you agreed to.
